Tyson Fury reveals Anthony Joshua back-up plan with unbeaten heavyweight "destroyer" name-checked

Tyson Fury has set his sights on a blockbuster fight with unbeaten German heavyweight Agit Kabayel should his hugely-anticipated domestic affair with Anthony Joshua fail to materialise.

The British boxing behemoths are expected to finally lock-horns later this year after both men teased that an agreement was imminent, although having been here many times in the past, few will believe the fight will actually happen until the first bell actually tolls.

In the making for well over a decade, it does appear as though British fight fans could finally witness the showdown they have long craved for with Turki Alalshikh believed to have offered the former unified heavyweight champions of the world over £250 million each to seal the deal.

Joshua is set to make his return to professional boxing following the tragic death of two of his closest friends next month against Albania's Kristian Prenga, whilst Fury is also understood to be close to announcing a tune-up fight of his own, with former sparring partner Nelson Hysa being heavily mooted.

Of course, both of those fights would serve as preparations for the colossal 'Battle of Britain', likely in November, although Fury has now name-checked another potential end-of-year opponent should talks for the lucrative Joshua dust-up break down once more.

"I would like to become a three-time champion," the Gypsy King told iFL TV this week.

There are a few scenarios that are happening and I am in a great position, by the way. I am number one ranked with the WBC again, if rabbit face [Usyk] pulls out of the fight with [Agit] Kabayel, then I am in with Kabayel.

"If the Joshua fight doesn’t happen, for whatever reason, then I will get my shot at three-time against Kabayel and I will take it to Wembley.

"He’s a big, destroying man who I’ve known from being a young lad."

Fury's comments come amidst talk that Kabayel's hopes of tackling the two-time undisputed heavyweight ruler Usyk for the WBC belt have been further dashed with both fighters' camps having made little progress in negotiations.

Now, as discussions between Queensberry and Matchroom rumble on over the Fury-Joshua scrap, it appears the Morecambe man is plotting a path towards Kabayel, who could be installed as WBC champion should Usyk fail to make a mandatory defence of his belt.

The Mexican-based governing body recently gave the green light to the Ukrainian to undertake a much-maligned crossover bout with Rico Verhoeven in Giza, Egypt, on the proviso that he would adhere to their request to fight Kabayel next.

But whilst the former cruiserweight's camp agreed to those terms, it now appears likely that he will instead relinquish possession of the belt in order to pursue more financial rewarding fights.
