True Love storms to impressive 1000 Guineas success

True Love was far to good for her rivals in Sunday's 1000 Guineas to give Aidan O'Brien an eighth winner in the Fillies' Classic.

O'Brien was forced to settle for runner-up in the 2000 Guineas ran on the previous day, but he would not be denied this time around.

True Love was less fancied than her stablemate Precise, but she wasn't to know, tanking her way up the Rowley Mile to score by one-and-three-quarter-lengths under Wayne Lordan.

The Master of Ballydoyle is now just one shy of the record nine wins set by Robert Robson in the 19th century. For Lordan, it was a case of lightening striking for the third time after he won on lesser-fancied Ballydoyle inmates Winter (2017) and Hermosa (2019).

True Love's impressive victory is extremely exciting, not just because of the manner in which she put the race to bed on Sunday, but also because of her impressive form as a two year old.

She has now landed a brace of Group 1 successes after winning the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket last year.

Lordan - who has ridden his fair share of top-level performers - was effusive in his praise of his latest Classic winner.

"It was a little bit of a question mark for her because she's a filly with loads of pace but I got a nice position and she settled really well," the 44-year-old told reporters post-race.

"I think when I passed the two [furlong marker] I was still going pretty easy, it was only a matter of time before letting her go forward and she saw out the mile well.

"She's a filly that's so big she's progressing all the time and going that trip has opened up more options for her."

The Irish 1000 Guineas looks to be the next logical step for the superstar filly and, should she come through that assignment, then she could even head to the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

While an extra two furlongs on top of what she raced over in the Guineas a venture into the unknown, she does hold an entry in the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes ran at the Curragh at the end of June.
