Their Premier League opener against Brentford was nothing short of a disaster, going 3-0 down shortly after half-time with Caoimhin Kelleher hardly breaking sweat.
Things were more promising against Newcastle last time out, but Roberto De Zerbi's men failed to make their early pressure show, and went down 2-0 to Newcastle.
It was a stark contrast of how these seasons were supposed to pan out for the respective clubs; Spurs were being tipped for Europe while Newcastle were being backed for relegation.
With so much spending over the summer, it would be utterly incredible for Spurs to be dragged into another relegation battle, but then similar was said this time 12 months ago.
bet365's Steve Freeth said: "This was the season it was going to change. Sandro Tonali deserted a sinking ship in Newcastle to join a Spurs side under fellow Italian Roberto De Zerbi, which was supposedly being steered towards European football again.
"However, they have been cut from 50/1 into 12/1 for relegation and are yet to score a goal, having previously circled the drain with two 17th-placed finishes. Let’s just put those trips to Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich on hold for now and bookmark Lincoln just in case."
It's not just the early results that are concerning, but the performances too. Tottenham's non-penalty expected goal difference is the second worst in the league ahead of only Aston Villa, and significant improvement is needed quickly if Spurs are to avoid another long and arduous season.
