James Maddison's injury woes have continued as the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is set for another period on the sidelines after sustaining a shoulder fracture in the defeat to Brentford.
Maddison had an MRI scan after suffering a fall in the heavy loss at the Gtech Community Stadium and the results revealed the Spurs midfielder had suffered a slight break in his shoulder.
The 29-year-old missed almost the entirety of the 2025/26 season with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and only returned to action in May, making three substitutes appearances to conclude the campaign.
It was hoped Maddison would be fit and firing upon their return from the summer break, but the former Leicester City midfielder had limited involvement during Tottenham's pre-season schedule as he managed a minor issue.
Injuries have been a recurring theme for Tottenham in recent seasons and Roberto De Zerbi will be hoping Maddison isn't out for a prolonged period as the Italian contends with a number of key absences.
We've taken a look at the earliest possible date that Maddison could return to first-team action.
Tottenham are optimistic Maddison will only be out for up to two weeks with his shoulder issue.
According to The Athletic, the midfielder participated in training on Monday and will be steadily phased back into action.
If Maddison's return plays out as expected, it's likely he will be in contention for Spurs' home Premier League fixture against Everton on Saturday 12th September. There's a chance he could return a week earlier for the trip to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest, but that will be dependent on his recovery.
Tottenham have one more Premier League fixture against Aston Villa in the following week before the three-week international window.
