The dust has settled on the French Open and, with the clay-court season now over, attention turns to the grass as the preparations for Wimbledon begin.
A strong field has assembled for the WTA Queen's Club Championships, which only returned to the WTA calendar in 2025 for the first time in more than 50 years.
Tatjana Maria was a shock winner on the tournament’s comeback last year, upsetting Amanda Anisimova in the final having previously sprung surprises against Elena Rybakina and Madison Keys.
Rybakina, champion at Wimbledon in 2022 and one of the leading grass-court players, is top seed and will be hoping to put a second-round exit at the French Open firmly behind her.
Last season’s runner-up Anisimova returns to the Queen's Club as second seed while Victoria Mboko and Belinda Bencic are seeded third and fourth, rewarding them with a first-round bye.
French Open semi-finalist Marta Kostyuk is also in contention and there is a strong British representation, spearheaded by Emma Raducanu and supported by Katie Boulter, Harriet Dart and Francesca Jones.
Best Bet - Elena Rybakina to win @ 13/8
Alternative Bet - Belinda Bencic each-way @ 7/1
Alternative Bet - Marie Bouzkova each-way @ 40/1
Best Bet: Elena Rybakina to win @ 13/8
Rybakina would have been disappointed with the way in which her clay-court season finished as she suffered a second-round defeat to Yuliia Starodubtseva at the French Open.
However, clay is by far her weakest surface and she still managed to win the Stuttgart Open on the slower terrain in April, before enjoying a quarter-final run in Rome.
Rybakina will be expected to take a step forward on grass, having won Wimbledon in 2022, and her big serve is a potent weapon on quicker conditions.
Having won the Australian Open at the start of the season, the world number two would be a cut above this field if bringing her A-game and there is no reason to think that she won’t.
Alternative Bet: Belinda Bencic each-way @ 7/1
The biggest challenge to Rybakina may stem from Bencic, who enjoyed a return to form with her run to the fourth round of the French Open.
Clay has always been Bencic’s most vulnerable surface, so there was no shame in losing in three sets to the in-form Elina Svitolina in the last 16.
Getting that tournament under her belt should only help for the grass-court season and she will be hopeful of having a positive time of things this summer having made the semi-finals of Wimbledon last year.
Bencic has made five grass-court finals during her career and the bottom half of the draw looks the place to be as she avoids Rybakina and should be able to win a quarter where Raducanu and Sorana Cirstea look the toughest tests.
Alternative Bet: Marie Bouzkova each-way @ 40/1
If there is to be an upset at Queen's Club then Marie Bouzkova may be the player that is able to raise her game for the grass.
There was no shame in suffering a third-round defeat to champion Mirra Andreeva at the French Open and Bouzkova has plenty of backclass, having made nine finals on the WTA Tour and claimed three titles.
The 29-year-old was a Wimbledon quarter-finalist in 2022, which shows her liking for this surface, and the second quarter of the draw looks winnable with French Open semi-finalist Kostyuk perhaps fatigued from a busy clay-court campaign.
