Sheffield Wednesday face competition for Man City starlet

Manchester City prospect Jaden Heskey looks set to be the subject of plenty of EFL interest this summer following a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday last term.

Speaking at a World Cup preview event in Sheffield, his father - former Liverpool and England man Emile Heskey - spoke about how the Owls are likely to face some stern competition for his signature again this season.

There has been early interest in Jaden, and that has come from his time at Sheffield Wednesday.

Jaden arrived at Hillsborough in January 2026, making 20 appearances for the club before his loan deal ended following their 2-1 win at home to West Brom on the final day of the Championship season.

Manager Henrik Pedersen was clearly impressed in the youngster, as he missed just one game in his time in Sheffield, making 19 starts and gaining valuable experience in the thick of it during a tough time for Wednesday.

Emile spoke at length about how the season may have benefitted his son's development:

"Jaden did really well going over to Sheffield Wednesday to learn and understand what it means to wake up every day and feel the importance of winning games.

"Obviously being in a position where the club was trying to stay in the league was always going to be tough under the circumstances, but it was really important for him to experience those pressures."

Granted, Sheffield Wednesday struggled, but Jaden did okay, so it's been an important period for him.

The starlet is unlikely to be affected by the departure of Pep Guardiola, that will be down to the academy staff and team responsible for managing loans, due to Manchester City's huge footballing infrastructure. The best move for him is ultimately chosen by them.

While Heskey Sr stopped short of naming some of the clubs they may have spoken to regarding his son's future, the news will come as a worry to Owls fans who had been hoping for a second loan as they emerge from administration and are allowed to think about signings who could help them bounce back from League One to the Championship.
