Sheffield Wednesday closing in on first summer transfer business with club "in a very exciting moment"

Sheffield Wednesday are setting the wheels in motion for a number of summer transfer deals as the Owls prepare for their upcoming 2026/27 League One campaign.

The Hillsborough club have endured a tumultuous couple of years, crippled by financial worries and long-standing disputes with former owner Dejphon Chansiri.

However, US consortium Arise Capital Partners have now gained full control of the club, with hopes that they can help Wednesday re-establish themselves as one of the country's true football powerhouses.

An agreement for David Storch to take over the reins of the club was officially announced in May, meaning Wednesday avoided the prospect of having to start the new season with a 15-point deduction, having previously been docked 18 points ahead of their 2025/26 Championship campaign.

Whilst the Steel City side, as expected, suffered relegation back down to the third-tier, excitement is now starting to build ahead of a new, exciting and stable era for the club, one which is expected to be kicked into gear with a number of statement summer signings in the coming weeks.

Wednesday are currently unable to officially complete any deals as they continue to work their way out of administration, although recently appointed sporting director Simon Wilson has revealed that progress is being made on many fronts.

"We’re very close with a number of things at the moment," he told supporters at an event earlier this week.

"Doing a transfer deal is hard; there are always three parties involved, being the buying club, the selling club and the player - the agent has no small matter in that as well! We have to get all of that aligned and it often takes a few stages.

The wind is in our favour. People want to come to the football club, we’re in a very exciting moment, but we don’t have very many players at the moment.

"That means we haven’t got to move people out in order to get people in, we want to bring people in. So we expect to have news soon."

Henrik Pedersen is understood to have drawn up a long transfer wish list as he attempts to guide the Owls to promotion next term.

The Dane has reportedly already spoken to former stalwart Barry Bannan about an emotional Hillsborough return, although speculation that an agreement has already been reached is premature.

The Scottish star ended his long association with the club during the January transfer window to join Premier League hopefuls Millwall, however, with Alex Neil's side having narrowly missed out on promotion, it's believed he is now keen to seal a return to the club.

Others to have been linked with a move to the Owls this summer include former Chelsea and Stoke City midfielder Lewis Baker and Colchester United winger Kyreece Lisbie.
