Just six months after waving an emotional farewell to the Wednesday faithful, former Owls captain Barry Bannan could be set for a Hillsborough return.
Bannan spent 11 years at Wednesday and made over 400 appearances for the club, including more than five years as captain.
The Scot stayed at Hillsborough throughout the club's turbulent financial period and signed a new contract with the Owls despite the uncertainty around their future last summer.
The 36-year-old departed the club in January, moving south to join Millwall on an 18-month deal, but now it appears a return could be on the cards.
Sheffield Wednesday were relegated to League One last season following a troubled season in which they picked up just two wins across the entire campaign.
The club were successfully taken over by new ownership last month, following months of uncertainty, and the Owls will now begin a significant rebuild in the third tier.
A number of players have been linked with moves to Hillsborough this summer but a move for midfield maestro Bannan would certainly be one to excite the Wednesday faithful.
According to several reports on social media, the club are in discussions with Millwall who are open to letting Bannan leave during the transfer window.
Despite his advancing years, Bannan is a hugely experienced operator who proved he still has the physical ability to compete in the Championship last season, where he played 42 times for both Wednesday and Millwall.
With the Owls set to embark on a huge rebuild of their playing squad over the next few months, bringing in someone of Bannan's stature and experience would represent a sensible move for the club and a fairy-tale return for the veteran Scot.
