There are a brace of British runners plotting Saratoga Derby glory in New York on Saturday night.
The £333,335 up for grabs for the winner makes this an extremely valuable prize; even for those needing to embark on a transatlantic trip in order to take their place in the stalls.
Runnings of this contest actually date all the way back to 1904, however, the race went through a 113-year absence having ceased to exist in 1906 before being reinstated to the calendar in 2019.
Charlie Appleby sent over Nations Pride to land the spoils in 2022, but all subsequent British hopes have been foiled.
Appleby had planned to run Pacific Avenue in Saturday's race, however, an injury he sustained in routine work saw him scratched.
Newmarket-based joint-trainers Simon & Ed Crisford are not averse to a runner abroad and neither is their contender Title Role (3/1). In fact, more than half of his career starts have come on foreign soil, picking up some valuable prizes along the way in the form of a German Guineas and Belmont Derby.
Glacius (10/1) is also flying the flag for the UK, sent over by Hugo Palmer after good efforts in defeat at both Royal Ascot and Sandown. Just a notch below Group 1 level at home, there will be hope that he can shed his maiden tag at Grade 1 level in the States.
The domestic challenge is spearheaded by Cherie DeVaux's Remember Mamba (4/1).
DeVaux's yard has been in ridiculous form so far this year, pulling of a coveted Kentucky and Belmont Stakes double with her stable star Golden Tempo. A narrow third to Saturday's favourite last time out, he only has to find a neck to bridge the gap to Title Role.
If it isn't him, then maybe America will land the spoils with West End Kid (5/1). Another that only has a narrow margin to overturn with the jolly, improvement could still come from this twice-raced son of Twirling Candy.
