After several respectable efforts in competitive handicaps this season, Elarak may be worth another chance in Listed company on Friday.
The son of Kingman ran a huge race in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot earlier in the campaign when only beaten a neck and followed that up with another placed effort in the highly competitive Bunbury Cup at Newmarket.
His subsequent Listed performance back on the July Course was another big effort, keeping on well for second having conceded first run to the well-backed winner.
He shaped like six furlongs was on the sharp side for him that day which is no surprise given that he sees out a stiff seven furlongs well enough (has also won at a mile) and if he can return to the level of his Royal Ascot form, he could be hard to beat from his high draw, which is often an advantage on the straight course at Newbury.

There’s plenty of pace in the fillies’ handicap on the card and it could set up nicely for Nightsinwhitesatin.
She did well at Haydock last time after missing the break early, staying on well for fourth and that form has already been boosted since with the runner-up winning in good style earlier this week.
Prior to that effort, she had finished runner-up in five of her last six starts and she’s now just 3lb above her last winning handicap mark, which came over this course and distance last season.
A return to a quicker surface should be in her favour and Ryan Moore now takes over from an apprentice so the filly has plenty of upside; she looks worth supporting each-way with bet365 paying an extra place on the race.
17:50 Newbury - Empirical @ 2/1
Empirical has really kicked on after a gelding procedure in the off season and looks worth following again with just a 2lb rise to cope with for his most recent effort.
The son of Kingman returned with a promising effort at Nottingham before coming on for that to win by a whopping eight lengths back at the same venue second time out this term.
The progressive three-year-old followed that up with a cosy success at Ayr and was subsequently only just touched off over this course and distance last month.
Ed Walker, who has already enjoyed a remarkable season, often excels at the back end of the campaign and Empirical can continue on his upward trajectory in the finale.
