Rangers have identified the player they want to sign to replace outgoing captain James Tavernier this summer.
Tavernier enjoyed a successful spell during his 11-year stay in Glasgow, captaining the club on their run to the Europa League final and winning the Scottish Premiership in 2021.
He is leaving Ibrox with the notable record of being the highest scoring defender in British professional football history
Ahead of the 34-year-old's imminent departure, Rangers are plotting a defensive overhaul under head coach Danny Rohl, following a disappointing third placed finish this season.
Now Rangers chiefs look to have settled on their preferred target to replace the outgoing captain at right-back in the summer transfer window.
According to Rangers News, negotiations are already underway between Allsvenskan side Hammarby and the Glasgow giants, with defender Hampus Skoglund the focus of those talks.
Skoglund is a 22-year-old right-back who has represented Sweden 15 times at under-21 level, he stands at 5ft 11 and is considered to be a pacy option on the right side of defence.
He moved to current club Hammarby at 17 years old and has made 64 appearances for the club in the Swedish top flight, becoming a reliable first team option across the last few years.
Rangers have also been linked to Skoglund's fellow Swede Casper Widell this summer, as Rohl's side undertake a reshape of their backline.
Any potential deal for the 22-year-old is unlikely to come cheap for the Gers; Skoglund has three years remaining on his contract at Hammarby and the club are believed to value him at around £3m.
