Rafael Leao has triggered conversations about his future after the forward revealed he intends to leave Milan this summer.

"I want to try a new challenge, in a new league," Leao told Portuguese media outlet Sport TV following a disastrous end to the season which saw Milan miss out on UEFA Champions League football.

Massimiliano Allegri paid the price for Milan's shortcomings, although he's managed to fall upwards into the Napoli job, and a huge summer is on the horizon for the Rossoneri.

Signed from Lille in 2019, Leao's racked up 145 goal contributions in 291 appearances during a productive seven-year stay with Milan, which includes winning the Scudetto in 2022 and the Supercoppa Italiana in 2024.

The forward is reported to be available for a fee of around £43 million this summer and will represent Portugal at this summer's World Cup.

We've assessed Leao's next club market and where the Portuguese star may venture next.

Manchester United have emerged as the early frontrunners to sign Leao.

The Red Devils will return to the UEFA Champions League after a two-year absence following a remarkable turnaround under Michael Carrick and the club will be looking to enhance their squad as they navigate the challenges of fighting on the domestic and continental front.

Leao's flirted with the idea of a move to Old Trafford, revealing he "likes United" because of his idol Cristiano Ronaldo.

It's been reported in Italy that United are one of several clubs Premier League clubs Milan have contacted to offer Leao, along with Arsenal and Chelsea.

The Gunners are expected to be in the market for a new left-sided forward/winger in the summer transfer window and have been linked with Leao in the past.

Turkish giants Fenerbahce and Galatasaray are also in the frame for Leao's services and there have been a number of Serie A stars to make the switch to Turkey in recent years.
