Betting has been suspended on the next Liverpool manager market with Arne Slot reportedly set to remain in charge of the Merseyside outfit.
Slot oversaw a remarkable Premier League title-winning campaign in his maiden season, taking Liverpool to heights that they wouldn't have imagined were possible after the departure of Jurgen Klopp, but their demise has been inescapably alarming.
Whether or not you view the 2025/26 campaign as a delayed transition period for the Reds, who completed a mass overhaul in the summer transfer window, their inability to compete on any front has justifiably raised concern.
Described by many as a rejuvenated side in the Dutchman's first season in charge, Liverpool's identity has seemingly faded away this campaign and the faithful Kop had their say when booing at the full-time whistle when the hosts were held to a 1-1 draw against Chelsea.
The word on the street amongst respected journalists has been that Liverpool's higher-ups wish to give Slot a third season to right his wrongs, but it's near impossible to ignore his side's form at the back end of the 2025/26 term.
Former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso did lead the betting after Slot's side exited the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup in April, but he has since been appointed by Chelsea on a four-year contract.
Slot's case for staying at Anfield has also been strengthened by The Telegraph's report of Liverpool's process to appoint his former technical coach and long-standing ally Etienne Reijnen.
Reijnen was a part of Slot's coaching staff that won the Eredivisie with Feyenoord in 2023 and the Dutchman wanted to bring the set-piece guru to Merseyside with him, only for a work permit issue to foil those plans and Reijnen instead remained in Rotterdam.
Reijnen had been working alongside Robin van Persie for the previous two seasons but left his post at Feyenoord on Sunday. His move to Liverpool is expected to be confirmed once the Premier League season concludes.
Outgoing Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola was at the head of the betting to be the Liverpool manager at the start of the 2026/27 campaign.
He's taken Bournemouth to new heights since arriving in 2023, leading the Cherries to European qualification in a remarkable 2025/26 season, and he notably shares a strong relationship with Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes.
Julian Nagelsmann, Sebastian Hoeneß and former Reds manager Jurgen Klopp had also featured prominently in the next Liverpool manager market.
