Middlesbrough have made a final decision on the futures of out of contract pair Sammy Silvera and Alex Gilbert with both players now officially set to depart the club.
Whilst the pair Silvera and Gilbert were both listed as released when the club announced their retained list last month, both players had remained in dialogue with Boro chiefs regarding potential contract extensions.
However, it's now been revealed by the Northern Echo that their futures do in fact lie away from the Riverside Stadium.
"The Northern Echo can confirm both Silvera and Gilbert have now played their final games for the club and will become free agents when their contracts expire at the end of June," local football reporter Dominic Shaw wrote.
Tricky winger Silvera is expected to be in high-demand with numerous Championship clubs, including Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers, understood to be weighing-up a potential move along with a handful of promotion-chasing League One sides.
The 25-year-old departs the North East having made 60 appearances for Boro, scoring eight goals, including two last season as they reached the play-offs under Kim Hellberg.
However, despite establishing himself as an important player following the Swede's arrival in the North East, he sustained an unfortunate stress fracture that prematurely curtailed his campaign, meaning he didn't feature in the play-offs at all.
Gilbert meanwhile waves goodbye on the back of a three seasons as a fringe player after joining from Brentford's B team in 2023.
He spent the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Charlton Athletic as they won promotion to the Championship, before making 21 appearances for his parent club last term, the majority of which came from the bench.
It's believed Middlesbrough are already actively targeting replacements for the pair, with the club hoping to add further quality to Hellberg's group to sustain another automatic promotion push.
They missed out on second spot by just four points last term, before being beaten by Hull City in the play-off final after they were dramatically reinstated to the Wembley showpiece at Southampton's expense.
