Marcus Rashford has been included in Thomas Tuchel's 26-man England squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Following an impressive loan spell with La Liga champions Barcelona, the Manchester-born forward is back in the Three Lions fold after being excluded from Gareth Southgate's squad for the 2024 Euros.
Rashford expressed his desire to leave Man Utd last summer, with the Catalan giants capitalising on the market opportunity and signing the winger on a season-long loan, with a reported €35 million option to buy.
It's yet to be seen as to whether Barca will active the clause to bring Rashford to Camp Nou permanently, but you'd suspect that he won't be short of suitors in the event that Hansi Flick's side opt against extending his stay, scoring 14 goals and registering 14 assists in all competitions in the 2025/26 term.
Few were surprised to see Rashford selected in the England squad after a strong campaign, but some may have been taken aback by his reaction.
The England international aimed a cryptic dig at parent club Man Utd when taking to social media minutes after Tuchel's 26-man squad was announced.
His Instagram story read:
"Special thanks to Unai (Emery), Hansi (Flick), Thomas (Tuchel), Aston Villa, Barcelona & England for believing in me when things got tough."
While the 28-year-old thanked England, Barcelona and former club Aston Villa, where he spent six months on loan in the 2024/25 season, he failed to mention the Red Devils, despite coming through the Man Utd academy at Carrington and still being signed to the club.
Rashford is still on the Man Utd books, but his relationship with the club has undoubtedly deteriorated over the years.
Ruben Amorim indirectly suggested that Rashford's efforts in training were not up to scratch, dropping the winger on more than one occasion before the player departed for Aston Villa in January 2025.
Amorim has since been relieved of his duties at Old Trafford, with the club confirming that Michael Carrick has signed a two-year contract as head coach after an impressive spell as interim.
It's yet to be seen as to whether Rashford's relationship with Man Utd is repairable, but his latest social media hint suggests that all bridges might have been burnt.
