Best Bet: Turkey to win @ 7/10

Turkey are in an incredibly exciting place, with a wave of up-and-coming talents in this squad.

A trio of 21-year-olds, Arda Guler, Deniz Gul and Kenan Yildiz, add some real quality in the final third, while 20-year-old Can Uzun could be a star of the future.

There's more experience in their defence and midfield, with the team led by Inter Milan's Hakan Calhanoglu.

They proved their mettle with 1-0 victories in both of their play-off games to make this tournament, while this fixture looks like an opportunity to let their attacking players off the leash.

Australia lost only once in qualifying, but they could be short on quality in what looks like a very tricky group. 

Turkey pushed the Netherlands in their Euro 2024 quarter-final and they've won 11 of 14 games since the start of 2025. They look like the strongest side in Group D and they're good value to start with maximum points.

Turkey arrived in North America in advance of the tournament and picked up a 2-1 victory over Venezuela in Florida.

Turkey's three wins at Euro 2024 saw them concede, while they were edged out 2-1 by the Dutch in Berlin.

In the meantime, their attacking midfield talents should make the difference. Galatasaray's Baris Yilmaz stands out ahead of this fixture, as he has scored in back-to-back games for his national side.

He also finished the season with a strike in a 3-0 win over Fenerbahce, so he arrives in North America in good form.

Guler should be key to Turkey unlocking deep defences and his ability to drift in from the right flank should pose problems for Australia's back-five.

Lucas Herrington is expected to be their left-sided centre-half and he has been cautioned on four occasions in MLS this season.

He was booked in his last club outing for Colorado Rapids and he faces his biggest test yet against Real Madrid’s Guler.
