Manchester City v Brighton & Hove Albion predicted lineups and team news

Manchester City face Brighton and Hove Albion in the EFL Cup fourth round on Wednesday night.

The Citizens suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season at the weekend, falling to a 2-1 defeat away at Aston Villa, having won all of their seven league matches prior.

Enzo Maresca's side booked their place in the fourth round of the EFL Cup via a 5-0 thrashing of Norwich City, while they have also won two of their three UEFA Champions League matches so far.

Meanwhile, Brighton have been one of the stories of the season so far, cementing themselves as one of the top scoring sides in Europe and finding themselves third in the Premier League table.

The Seagulls are also competing in the UEFA Conference League this campaign, winning one and drawing one of their two matches so far, meaning that rotation is likely where available for this fixture.

With all that in mind, let's take a look at the team news and predicted lineups for both sides.

In his press conference, Maresca confirmed that five Manchester City players - including Erling Haaland - would not feature in this fixture, meaning that a heavily rotated side is expected.

As a result of injury issues - and the decision to leave Haaland out of the squad altogether - City will likely lean on their academy to fill the gaps, allowing Ryan McAidoo and Tyrone Samba to start on Wednesday night.

Young defenders Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis are also in line to feature, while summer signings Ayyoub Bouaddi and Allan are also expected to start in the youthful team.

For Brighton, injury issues restrict quite how much they can rotate for any one fixture this term, with Lewis Dunk, Luka Vuskovic and Diego Gomez all set to retain their place from the loss at Anfield.

The Seagulls have no short of nine injuries at this stage of the season, making juggling Premier League and European football that much harder.

Brighton's expected XI for this fixture features eight players who were named on the substitutes bench in the defeat to Liverpool, though it remains to be seen just how strongly Fabian Hurzeler will take Wednesday's contest.
