Celtic v Dundee United Prediction: Duran to deliver in 15/1 Bet Builder

Dundee United will bid to end a 34-year wait for a win at Parkhead when they face Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic on Wednesday night.

Duncan Ferguson grabbed the only goal of the game the last time the Tangerines tasted victory in the east end of Glasgow back on Boxing Day 1992.

Jim Goodwin’s men may not have a striker of Ferguson’s calibre in their ranks but they will carry some momentum after extending their unbeaten streak to five with a 3-2 home win over Aberdeen on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Celtic got back to winning ways with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Hibernian at the weekend, recording their ninth win in 10 league matches to maintain a four-point advantage at the summit.

Martin O'Neill's side have been particularly reliable at Celtic Park in domestic competition, winning four of their five league games on home soil this season.

The visitors did defeat Celtic twice at Tannadice last season, however, and that should give them confidence they can make life uncomfortable for the champions.

Celtic v Dundee United

Celtic v Dundee United Prediction

Best Bet: Under 3.5 Goals @ 10/11

Celtic are expected to claim all three points, but they shouldn’t find Dundee United as easy to break down as in their previous recent encounters.

Goodwin’s side have conceded only four goals across their last five games and will probably sit deep at Celtic Park on Wednesday.

The Hoops have been dominant in the Premiership this season, but recent performances suggest they are no longer blowing teams away with the same regularity.

Four of Celtic’s last six matches have featured fewer than four goals and only two of their eight home games this term have surpassed the 3.5-goal mark.

Although O’Neill’s side clearly possess greater quality throughout the pitch, Dundee United have shown enough resilience and attacking threat to indicate a more competitive contest than many expect.

A scrappy Celtic victory in a game featuring fewer than four goals looks the most likely outcome.

Alternative Bet: Celtic to win 2-1 @ 8/1

Aside from a recent 7-1 hammering of Hearts, Celtic’s goal production has been dwindling.

The Hoops have failed to find the back of the net more than twice in nine of their last 10 games in all competitions, registering only once at home to Celta Vigo and Ferencvaros while failing to find the back of the net against Rangers in the League Cup.

The seven-goal jaunt against the Jambos was down to the calamitous defending of the visitors that day rather than any return to form for their strikers, among whom Kasper Hogh looks to be really struggling.

The Dane has failed to score in his last 16 appearances for club and country and even failed to notch when given half an hour against a Hearts side that were already 6-1 down.

Each of Celtic's last two games has ended 2-1, albeit they were on the wrong end of that scoreline against Celta Vigo.

But the table-toppers continue to find ways to get results domestically, winning nine of their opening 10 Premiership matches, so are worth backing to edge out an improving Dundee United team 2-1 this week.

The Tangerines are carrying enough attacking momentum to get on the scoresheet themselves after bagging eight times in their last four matches.

Celtic v Dundee United Bet Builder Tip

  • Camilo Duran to score

  • Jesse Randall to assist

  • Zach Sapsford 1+ shot on target

    Pays 15/1

Camilo Duran has scored six goals in his first 10 league appearances and arrives in this fixture after hitting a sublime winner against Hibernian.

His movement in and around the penalty area has been outstanding in recent weeks and he should enjoy plenty of service playing at home against a side likely to spend long spells defending.

Randall was unlucky not to register another assist on Saturday when Zach Sapsford’s first-time finish from his cross was ruled out for a contentious offside.

The New Zealand international provided a goal and two assists in his three previous Premiership appearances and can cause problems to a Celtic defence that has struggled to keep clean sheets.

Finally, add Sapsford to hit the target at least once to the Bet Builder.

The Australian forward scored the winner at the weekend and has cemented his place in Goodwin’s starting XI.
