Liverpool v Tottenham predicted lineups and team news

Liverpool will look to book their place in the fourth round of the EFL Cup when hosting Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night.

It's been a nightmare start to the season for Tottenham, who are still to score a Premier League goal, and with no European competition this term, fans will be hopeful of a good run in the domestic cups.

While a trip to Anfield isn't exactly an ideal tie for Roberto De Zerbi's men, the Reds have looked vulnerable themselves this term. Liverpool twice needed to come from behind to rescue a late point against Newcastle before doing the same against Nottingham Forest, and having beaten Ipswich Town comfortably enough, looked blunt against a struggling Fulham outfit last time out.

Iraola will likely ring the changes with his side playing their fourth game in 12 days, and Giorgi Mamardashvili has already been confirmed to get the nod in goal.

Fit-again Joe Gomez should start in defence, though he's not expected to last the 90 minutes. Milos Kerkez was brought on for Kostas Tsimikas at half-time and will likely start again on Tuesday. Jeremie Frimpong also came off the bench and should start at right-back, with Ronald Araujo potentially moving into the heart of defence to give Jeremy Jaquet and Virgil van Dijk a rest.

Alexis Mac Allister may be given a starting berth having been introduced from the bench at the weekend, with youngster Trey Nyoni pushing for a start. Victor Munoz only played an hour against Fulham and should be fit to start again, while Rio Ngumoha will likely be selected to give Bradley Barcola a break as he works his way back to full fitness.

Alexander Isak will likely make way for Cody Gakpo to lead the line.

With Tottenham potentially playing just 41 games this season, De Zerbi will likely want to give some of his fringe players some game time with other members of his squad getting back to full fitness.

As such, Marcos Senesi and Tosin Adarabioyo should start at centre-back with Andy Robertson likely retaining his place as he prepares to face his old club. The injury to Pedro Porro should see Archie Gray remain at right-back.

Lucas Bergvall came off the bench on Saturday and will hope to line up in midfield alongside Conor Gallagher and Mateus Fernandes. James Maddison and Mohammed Kudus are working their way back to fitness and should start having been introduced from the bench at the weekend.
