Andoni Iraola heaped praise on Giorgi Mamardashvili as the goalkeeper prepares for his first appearance of the season.
Liverpool kick off their EFL Cup campaign on Tuesday night when they play host to Tottenham in the third round.
The game will allow both teams to experiment and make changes, with neither side yet to really hit the ground running in the Premier League.
One beneficiary of said changes is set to be Mamardashvili, with the Georgia international set to start between the sticks for the home side.
Mamardashvili was regularly called into action last season as first-choice stopper Alisson endured two extended injury absences.
While he came under fire on more than one occasion in what was an overall underwhelming campaign for the Reds, Iraola insisted that he has total faith in the 25-year-old.
"I rate Giorgi very highly," the Liverpool boss said on Monday.
"I know him from his years in Spain. I told him that we tried to sign him for Bournemouth before I came here. He’s a very good goalkeeper and he will start tomorrow."
Liverpool's longest-serving player Joe Gomez is also set to start in the midweek fixture after recovering from an injury that has seen him miss the start of the season.
Iraola confirmed that the defender is in contention to start but admitted that he is unlikely to see out the entirety of the game.
He continued: "Joe is training with the team and I think he’s going to be available for tomorrow."
"It’s a matter of deciding how much he can play and what the best thing to do is."
