Spurs may just welcome another early-season cup distraction after a woeful start to the campaign - Saturday's 0-0 draw at home to Everton stretched their winless - and goalless - start to four games in the league.
With both Andoni Iraola and Roberto De Zerbi expected to make some changes for this EFL Cup third-round tie, this has the makings of an entertaining clash as some fringe players and youngsters attempt to stake a claim for more regular action.

In the previous round, Spurs won 5-1 when having far too much quality for Charlton, so goalscoring wasn't an issue that night as the likes of Dominic Solanke, Mikey Moore and new signing Savio all took their chances.
Those three, plus the likes of James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel, could boost Spurs' attacking output so the visitors are taken to breach a Liverpool backline that continues to look shaky as they adapt to Iraola's methods.
The Basque coach is also expected to make changes to give players like Trey Nyoni, Wataru Endo and Lewis Koumas the chance to impress.
A home win is still anticipated, though, with Tottenham's fairly miserable recent record at Anfield factored into the equation.
The Lilywhites have only won two of the last 20 meetings in all competitions and as recently as February 2025 were on the end of a 4-0 defeat away in this competition in the semi-final second leg.
