Liverpool have made a winning start to the league phase after coming from behind to beat Atlético de Madrid 2-1 at Anfield.
Andoni Iraola made two changes for his side's UEFA Champions League opener as Bradley Barcola made his first Liverpool start and the talented Rio Ngumoha returning to the starting XI - with Victor Munoz dropping to the bench and Cody Gakpo missing out as a precaution.
The hosts responded well and were dominating possession when they levelled matters five minutes before the interval.
Milos Kerkez retrieved the ball well and teed up Barcola, who saw his effort saved by the leg of Jan Oblak but Ronald Araujo recycled the ball and his flick allowed Dominik Szoboszlai to slot home.
Liverpool, who had been boosted by securing their first Premier League win on Friday night, continued to play with confidence and they took the lead when Alexis Mac Allister smashed the ball into the bottom corner on 50 minutes to give the hosts the lead.
Atleti responded and did create a couple of chances to equalise, but the Reds stood firm as an electric atmosphere from the Anfield crowd got them over the line.
