The Argentinian ace has excelled in the Spanish capital since joining from Manchester City a couple of years ago in an £81 million deal, netting ten times in the UEFA Champions League last season alone.
His goalscoring pedigree has caught the attention of numerous clubs around the continent, including La Liga giants Barcelona, who lodged a €100 million bid for the 26-year-old.
However, their offer was publicly mocked by Atletico on their official social media channels and it's understood they will demand around €140 million to part ways with their leading goalscorer before the end of the window.
Barca are not the only club credited with an interest in Alvarez though, with Premier League champions Arsenal reportedly weighing up a move.

The Gunners appear to be the Argentine's only option at present after Atletico confirmed they will not enter into any negotiations with Barcelona.
Alvarez has previously expressed his desire to join Barcelona, who again went public with their desire to sign the 26-year-old following an interview with president Joan Laporta.
However, Atleti have reiterated they will not engage with Barcelona over a transfer for Alvarez, prising the door open for Arsenal to make a move.
