Salford City's League Two title odds after seventh straight win

Salford City strengthened their grip at the top of the standings by recording their seventh league win in a row with a 4-2 victory over Walsall at the Bescot Stadium.

Encountering the only unbeaten side remaining in the division, Salford made a bright start to proceedings and they were eventually rewarded when returning striker Macauley Langstaff rifled a low effort into the far corner to break the deadlock on the stroke of half-time.

The visiting Ammies then doubled their advantage early in the second half when Brendan Wiredu dispossessed Courtney Clarke in a dangerous area before feeding Jorge Grant, who produced a thumping finish.

If Salford thought they were home and hosed, Lee Grant's Saddlers demonstrated why they were undefeated as they fought back instantaneously. First Aaron Pressley slammed home Tai Sodge's cutback, and parity was restored eight minutes later as substitute Lewis Simper guided Mason Hancock's divine cross beyond Will Norris.

Instead of being rocked by the setback, Salford rose to the occasion. Within a minute they restored their advantage as Langstaff turned provider for Kallum Cesay to fire past Jed Ward.

The icing was added to the cake when Adebola Oluwo connected with Luke Molyneux's outswinging corner to make it four and ensure Peter Cklamovski's men returned to Greater Manchester with all three points in hand.

League Two

It was a slow start to the campaign for Salford and there were initial teething issues for Cklamovski and his expensively assembled squad to overcome, but they look every inch the pre-season title favourites they were billed to be.

After three defeats in their first three games, nine wins from their last 10 mean Salford sit top of League Two and hold a six-point advantage at the summit, albeit having played two games more than nearest contenders Barnet.

They may not be the most free-flowing side in the division, but the wealth of attacking talent at Cklamovski's disposal means they're capable of outscoring any team - as showcased in the West Midlands on Monday evening.

Cklamovski appears to have concocted a formula which provides Salford with an improved defensive structure while enabling his attacking individuals to express themselves.

With Langstaff firing on all cylinders and contributions being delivered from the likes of Molyneux, Cesay and Grant, Salford appear to be in the best position for many a year to orchestrate an automatic promotion charge and finally climb into the third tier.
