Hull City set to beat Premier League rivals in race to sign highly-rated goalkeeper

Hull City are reportedly in pole position to sign a young goalkeeper who has attracted attention from multiple Premier League clubs.

The Tigers have already moved to overhaul their goalkeeping department this summer after securing a first return to the top flight in a decade via the play-offs.

Ivor Pandur, who was a key figure in Sergej Jakirovic's promotion-winning side, joined Rangers in a deal said to be worth £6million late last month, with Jack Butland going the other way.

Despite Butland's extensive Premier League experience, it appears that the former England international will serve as a backup at the MKM Stadium, with Hull reportedly chasing a move for Olympiacos goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis.

After coming through the club's academy, Tzolakis has established himself as the No 1 at the Greek giants and even captained the club on a number of occasions last season.

Aged just 23, the 6ft 4in shot stopper has earned nine international caps for Greece, and attracted interest from the Premier League and across Europe.

Reports in recent weeks have claimed that several clubs are prepared to move for Tzolakis, with Aston Villa, Brighton and Coventry City among the clubs said to be chasing a deal.

However, according to a report from Hull Live, The Tigers are in line to hijack any potential transfer - with Tzolakis said to be keen on a move to the MKM Stadium.

Negotiations are reportedly already underway, and Hull are said to be confident of sealing the deal in the coming days.

Separate reports have claimed that Olympiacos may value Tzolakis - who has already played UEFA Champions League football - in excess of €20million (£17m).

Should a transfer be completed at that valuation Tzolakis would not only be the most expensive goalkeeper in Hull City's history but also the club's all-time record transfer.

That record is currently held by former West Brom manager Ryan Mason.

Hull paid Tottenham Hotspur £13million to sign the one-time England international in August 2016 - but a fractured skull suffered in a game against Chelsea just five months later forced him to retire at just 27.
