Charlton Athletic v Queens Park Rangers Prediction: 11/8 Hoops to maintain away record

QPR suffered their first defeat of the season when Middlesbrough left Loftus Road with a 1-0 win on Saturday.

However, a return to winning ways at Charlton Athletic should be within their scope after the Hoops claimed full returns from their Championship trips to Portsmouth and Blackburn Rovers.

The Addicks got off to a dream start with three wins, including a surprise 2-1 victory at West Ham, but the wheels came off in the Potteries Stadium on Saturday.

They were thumped 4-0 by Stoke City and manager Nathan Jones now faces a tough task to rally his troops after such a major setback.

Charlton Athletic v QPR

Charlton Athletic v QPR Prediction

Best Bet: Queens Park Rangers to win @ 5/4

Charlton fans were delighted to see their side stay in the Championship last term after heading into the second tier via the play-offs and few would have been eyeing promotion even after they opened the season with three wins.

Their 2-1 success at West Ham could prove to be a big highlight of their season, but enthusiasm has to be tempered by the fact that their two other successes came against Derby County and Preston North End, who have made shaky starts.

After a creditable draw at West Brom, they fell 4-0 to Stoke last weekend and they may not be able to recover against QPR.

Rangers fell to promotion-hopefuls Boro at home on Saturday, but they won their two away games against Portsmouth and Blackburn and this looks like an assignment of a similar nature.

Expect the visitors to claim the London derby honours and provide Addicks manager Jones with more food for thought.

Alternative Bet: Harvey Vale to score at any time @ 15/4

QPR midfielder Harvey Vale has yet to open his account for the season, but he could hardly be accused of not trying his luck and Wednesday could be the occasion when his fortunes finally change.

The Irishman scored four goals for the R's last season and he has had 15 efforts at goal in five appearances so far this term, including four on target when his team was unable to punch through a stubborn Bolton Wanderers in a recent goalless draw at Loftus Road.

He is still available at an attractive price to get on the scoresheet and he could threaten to do just that against the Addicks this midweek.

Charlton Athletic v QPR Bet Builder Tip

  • Lloyd Jones to have a shot

  • Under two Charlton goals

  • Miles Leaburn to commit three or more fouls

    Pays 8/1

Charlton's main goal threat is likely to come from set-pieces and that will bring towering central defender Lloyd Jones into the mix.

Jones has already proved a real menace in the opposition penalty area for the Addicks this term, scoring in the wins against both Derby and West Ham, as well as a consolation effort in their 5-1 EFL Cup defeat at Tottenham.

He is capable of offering a shot at goal, but don't expect Charlton to score a flurry of goals as they have netted just six times in their opening five assignments, so they may be unlikely to register more than once on Wednesday evening.

It could fall to striker Miles Leaburn to rectify that but the son of Addicks folk hero Carl has committed 15 fouls in his five league appearances, including four in each of his last three against Preston, West Brom and Stoke, so he could be penalised at least three times in this one.
