Hull City and Coventry City are among a number of clubs said to be weighing up a move for Marseille midfielder Angel Gomes this summer.
Both teams achieved promotion from the Championship last season, with Frank Lampard leading the Sky Blues to the title to secure to secure a return to the Premier League after a 25-year absence.
Hull City meanwhile took a more circuitous route, just managing to earn a place in the top six on the final day of the season before triumphing in the play-off final via a dramatic stoppage-time winner from Oli McBurnie.
With the 2026/27 season less than two months away, both clubs have wasted little time in looking to strengthen their options for the coming campaign - with Gomes reportedly appearing on their radar.
According to TEAMtalk, Marseille are willing to allow Gomes to leave the club this summer, with Coventry and Hull said to be among the clubs leading the race to secure his signature.
The report suggests the Ligue 1 side would be willing to consider offers of around £17million, a figure that, if reached, would represent a club-record fee for both Coventry and Hull.
A product of Manchester United's academy, Gomes struggled to earn a consistent place at Old Trafford and departed the club in 2021 having made just 10 senior appearances in all competitions for the club.
It was in France where the diminutive midfielder began to make good on his early promise, becoming a consistent feature for Lille in Ligue 1 and for England U21.
Gomes would go on to make more than 100 appearances for Lille in the French top flight and was a key player as the club reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Conference League in 2023-24 before being eliminated on penalties by Aston Villa.
His form was such that when Young Lions boss Lee Carsley was placed in temporary charge of England upon Sir Gareth Southgate's departure, Gomes was integrated into the senior squad - making four senior appearances for his country in 2024.
After joining Marseille last summer Gomes was allowed to go on loan to Wolves in January window and made 12 Premier League appearances as the club were unable to climb out of the relegation zone.
Wolves are said to have had an option to purchase Gomes for just £7million as part of the loan agreement but ultimately opted not to exercise the clause after falling back into the second tier.
