It’s a busy day of horse racing across Britain and Ireland on Wednesday, with five meetings due to take place, starting at Thirsk and ending at Bath.
Racing Post tipster, Marcus Buckland, has provided three recommendations for the day’s action
15:10 Thirsk - Celtic Arrow @ 11/1
18:10 Fairyhouse - Girl Bear @ 13/2
18:57 Epsom - Alma Latina @ 15/8
15:10 Thirsk - Celtic Arrow @ 11/1
Julie Camacho has her string in fine form at present and that bodes well to Celtic Arrow’s chances ahead of her handicap debut at Thirsk.
Celtic Arrow, a daughter of Persian Force, has hit the frame on all three starts to date, running to a consistent level over 5f and 6f and recording Racing Post Ratings of 62, 64 and 63 in the process.
All three of those runs have been on Tapeta at Newcastle, but she’s bred to appreciate turf and looks to be starting out off a fair official mark of 66.
An absence of 112 days is of no great concern and Ryan Sexton, who recently brought up his half century of winners for this stable, is onboard for the first time.
18:10 Fairyhouse - Girl Bear @ 13/2
The booking of Billy Lee for Jack Foley’s Girl Bear at Fairyhouse looks significant, the three-year-old filly having bounced back to form when third on last month’s handicap debut over 7f at Roscommon.
The daughter of Kodi Bear had shaped with plenty of promise when beaten just three-quarters of a length on her racecourse bow at Galway on soft ground last September, but she achieved very little in two subsequent runs, very likely getting bogged down in extremely testing conditions at The Curragh.
However, she got her career firmly back on track at Roscommon in May, aided by good ground, posting a solid effort from the front and only losing second near the finish. This drop back to sprinting looks a positive move and she should be thereabouts, having surprisingly been dropped since his last run.
18:57 Epsom - Alma Latina @ 15/8
This race at Epsom looks like a good opportunity for Alma Latina to supplement last month’s Pontefract maiden win, with an opening official mark of 82 very likely underestimating her ability.
A sister to Group 3 scorer Alea Iacta and a half-sister to Group 2 and Listed winners, she’s got black type potential of her own down the line, such is the promise she’s shown in three starts over 1m2f to date.
She ran to a Racing Post Rating of 86 when readily winning at odds of 11/8 at Pontefract and threatens to be even better now that she tackles 1m4f for the first time.
