There is a top-quality seven-race card coming up from Newbury on Saturday, which includes the Mill Reef Stakes and the World Trophy Stakes.
Racing Post tipster Robbie Wilders is on hand to provide three selections at Newbury on Saturday.
13:02 Newbury - Diligent Harry @ 15/2
14:47 Newbury - Merveilleux Lapin @ 18/1
16:30 Newbury - Storming Point @ 7/2
13:02 Newbury - Diligent Harry @ 15/2
Starlust is feared in the World Trophy after producing two admirable efforts at the highest level on his past two runs, but this could be the time to catch Diligent Harry.
Clive Cox’s stable stalwart is back from an 84-day break and has often been at his best when running fresh. The booking of Ryan Moore is a positive to his chance, with the top rider one from one when taking the mount.
It is easy to pigeon-hole Diligent Harry as simply an all-weather performer as all his wins have been on the sand, but that’s misleading as he is just as good on turf, according to Racing Post Ratings and Topspeed figures.
Diligent Harry has run big races at a higher level on this surface and his two turf efforts over 6f earlier in the campaign, in similar races, were good efforts. The drop back to 5f won’t inconvenience him one bit and this could be the day he finally breaks his turf duck.
14:47 Newbury - Merveilleux Lapin @ 18/1
Merveilleux Lapin appears to have been underestimated for local trainer Owen Burrows in the 1m2f handicap.
The daughter of Mohaather was a smart operator in France a year ago, signing off her spell for previous connections by running in the Group 1 Prix de L'Opera.
While winless in four starts since joining Burrows, there has been promise along the way.
She went close at Windsor off a 1lb higher mark when entitled to be ring-rusty on her stable debut and then showed up well in a Pontefract Listed race.
The well-treated Al Azd proved too strong for my selection on her third stable outing at Ascot and her latest Galtres Stakes effort is worth forgiving as she helped force a strong pace over a longer trip.
Her best run for Burrows came over 10 furlongs and everything looks in place for a big run on this return to handicap company.
16:30 Newbury - Storming Point @ 7/2
Storming Point must be one of the most talented six-race maidens around as he’s rated 84 and is fresh from running two big races in red-hot handicaps at Glorious Goodwood and York. He can secure a first success in the mile handicap.
This Gary and Josh Moore-trained son of Blue Point was only beaten a short-head by the talented Needle Match at this track on his debut last autumn and a return to the Berkshire venue is just what the doctor ordered.
He motored home from an unpromising position to bag sixth from the worst possible draw in stall 20 on his handicap debut at Goodwood and was mucked about at the start in another big three-year-old handicap on the Knavesmire, eventually finishing to good effect for fifth.
This race looks much weaker and Ryan Moore returns to the saddle, which is a big plus.
