There are two Group 3s at Sandown, which hosts the big card domestically on Saturday, the Atalanta Stakes (14:50) and the Solario Stakes (15:30).

With plenty of rain around in the 48 hours before racing and potentially through the card on Saturday, I’m expecting conditions to be testing and if that proves to be the case, it could suit Gonna Fly.
Ralph Beckett’s colt created a taking impression when scoring on debut at the back end of last season at Newbury in testing conditions, a race that worked out pretty well, and this is going to be the first time he’s encountered similar ground since.
In the interim, he’s added to his tally in a three-runner novice at Windsor and he’s had excuses in two runs since, racing too keenly at Chester and not looking at home on the track at Goodwood subsequently.
A 2lb drop in the weights will help this lightly-raced three-year-old and with the potential of a slower surface helping spark a revival, he looks worth chancing from an each-way perspective with bet365 offering an extra place on the race.
14:50 Sandown - Moon Target @ 4/1
Slower ground is also likely to help Moon Target who looks like the right favourite for the Atalanta Stakes.
Sir Mark Prescott’s filly looked like a work in progress as a juvenile last term, despite a couple of creditable efforts at Group level, and she improved on this season’s return with a two-length defeat in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
That’s an effort worth marking up having met more than her fair share of trouble in-running and she ran another cracker in another Group 1 in the Prix Rothschild at Deauville last time out.
Her action suggests that she’s going to be a lot more effective on rain-softened ground and she could be hard to beat dropping markedly in class.
There is an argument to say that she should be the outright favourite for this contest and with the yard in flying form, she could be hard to pass.
17:10 Sandown - Rosario @ 6/1
Having met a fair amount of trouble in the run at Windsor last time out, Rosario looks worth giving another chance to now dropping back to his preferred distance.
The five-year-old couldn’t get into it from rear 19 days ago but shaped like he remains in form after a big effort at Newmarket where he was a never nearer fourth.
The key to his chance is the strong pace that should be on, which should allow Rossa Ryan to slot in towards the far rail despite his relatively high draw and he’s posted several strong efforts in soft ground in the past.
He’s now fallen to his lowest-ever mark and if he gets the breaks in-running, which isn’t always straightforward over this course and distance, he can outrun his odds.
