Further Group 1 targets set for "very good" Senorita Bonita

Connections of Senorita Bonita are eyeing future top-level success after victory in the Prix Morny last weekend.

Simon & Ed Crisford's superstar filly routed a decent Deauville field on her first start in Group 1 company, streaking four lengths clear of the Aidan O'Brien's Carry The Flag.

She had previously defeated Royal Ascot and subsequent Lowther winner Libertango in the Duchess Of Cambridge Stakes at Newmarket and looks all set to return to Britain's Flat headquarters for a tilt at the Cheveley Park Stakes.

One of the most revered two-year-old races of the season, the Cheveley Park has been won by the likes of Alcohol Free, Special Duty and Lake Victoria since the turn of the century, but co-trainer Ed Crisford is very happy for her to take her chance.

“She’s come out of it great, it was a really good performance and we’ll head for the Cheveley Park,” Crisford told AtTheRaces.

“I guess it’s going to be a pretty decent race, but I thought our performance in the Prix Morny against the colts was a very, very good performance.

“We’re still five weeks away from the Cheveley Park, so there’s a bit of water to pass under the bridge and we’ll see how she is between now and then, but it should be a good race.”

Such was the impressive nature of her Prix Morny win, Senorita Bonita is 9/4 to double her Group 1 tally at Newmarket next month.

Should she get there, it is likely that she will be taken on by recent Ebor Festival winner Sun Goddess. Having already won the Phoenix Stakes she was very much a known quantity heading into the Harry's Half Million By Goffs, however, the six-length hammering that she dished out to her rivals saw her price come crashing down to 15/8 for the Cheveley Park.

Whoever comes out on top at Newmarket, it is likely that they will put themselves firmly on the map for the 1,000 Guineas back on the Rowley Mile next May. It is a common route for Cheveley Park winners to take, with True Love completing the double in 2026.
