There’s a cracking day of action on terrestrial television on Saturday with the action coming from the top-quality cards at York, Chester and Sandown.
The Racing Post’s Phill Anderson has picked out three tips for the best of the action, with two selections from York and one from Sandown.
13.50 York - Prince Of The Seas @ 14/1
14:25 York - Daydreama @ 28/1
15:17 Sandown - Hot Cash @ 12/1
13.50 York - Prince Of The Seas @ 14/1
Finding a talented jockey in a race confined to amateur riders can be worth its weight in gold and one rider that has made a promising start to her career is Megan Jordan, who has an interesting ride in York’s opener.
She has a 16% strike-rate in her career so far, showing a level stakes profit of £7.35 to £1 stakes and the rider was first past the post in this Queen Mother’s Cup last season before a subsequent disqualification for overuse of the whip.
While that was an error on her part, the rider will be keen to right the wrong on Saturday and she is one of the more assured female amateur riders in this year’s renewal.
She takes the ride on board Prince Of The Seas who joined David O’Meara in the off-season for 30,000 gns. This four-year-old was progressive last season and while he’s yet to score for his new connections, there were signs of a return to form when sixth at Ripon last time out, not getting a strong enough pace to aim at over an insufficient trip.
This is likely to be much more of a stamina test and he’s going to relish getting back on quicker ground, which seems to be the key to this son of Sea The Stars.
He’s now dropped 3lb below his last winning handicap mark and looks overpriced at 14/1.
14:25 York - Daydreama @ 28/1
It’s worth taking on the front two in the market in search of some each-way value with bet365 offering six places in the 7f handicap and one that can outrun his odds is Daydreama.
He was steadily progressive as a two-year-old last season, going close in a valuable contest over this course and distance and he came on from his seasonal return with another cracking run over course and distance when only caught late on last month.
A stamina sapping mile on slow ground at Carlisle subsequently was never likely to suit and the return to this venue back on quicker ground could see him spark back into life, as has been the case after low-key runs previously.
There’s a suspicion he’s reliant on a strong pace to be seen at his best but that looks more likely than not and he’s the one that appeals most at the bigger prices.
15:17 Sandown - Hot Cash @ 12/1
Jack Channon won this contest last year and has solid claims of doing so again with Hot Cash.
He’s been right back to his best in his last couple of starts, hitting the cross bar at Thirsk before finishing runner-up again at Epsom last week. He may have won the latter contest without hanging left down the camber in the closing stages, making him a tricky ride.
A return to a more conventional track has to be a bonus and there’s a suspicion the stiff nature of Sandown’s finish will really play to his strengths having shaped like he wants a bit further on numerous occasions.
Furthermore, the yard is back in good form with two winners and three places from their last eight representatives at the time of writing and Hot Cash makes plenty of appeal each-way with bet365 offering an extra place on the race.
