Rafael Câmara will be a rookie on the Formula 1 grid next season after he was officially unveiled as a Haas driver on a multi-year contract.
The Brazilian will replace Esteban Ocon for the United States-based constructor after Haas confirmed last month that the Frenchman will depart at the end of the campaign.
Câmara was selected following an extensive recruitment process which saw him compete against three other drivers, including reigning Formula 2 champion Leonardo Fornaroli and Haas reserve drivers Jack Doohan and Ryo Hirakawa.
The 21-year-old currently leads the F2 championship by seven points over Nikola Tsolov with two rounds of the campaign remaining.
"I'm really excited to sign such a young, amazing talent like Rafael Camara," Haas team principal Ayao Komatsu said.
"He showed when we had him drive in our programme in Portugal that he could handle himself very well with not a huge amount of time to learn the car. He showed us more than just raw speed.
"Rafa managed to create an environment to get the best out of himself, it was very impressive and certainly the laps he completed were special."
While Câmara's team-mate is yet to be officially confirmed, it's expected Ollie Bearman will line up alongside him next season.
Both Bearman and Câmara have been members of the prestigious Ferrari driver academy since 2022.
Câmara has worked his way through Formula 4 and Formula Regional series before earning acclaim for a stunning rookie season in Formula 3 where he won the title.
The 2025 FIA Rookie of the Year has made a seamless transition into F2 with Invicta Racing, winning three races and achieving six podiums to lead the standings in the latter stages of the campaign.
Câmara is the 4/6 favourite to win the F2 title, with Tsolov priced at 11/5 and Irishman Alexander Dunne a 4/1 outsider, who is a further 18 points back from the Brazilian.
Câmara said: "It's an important step in my career and I want to thank (owner) Gene Haas and Ayao Komatsu for the trust they have placed in me.
"Now my focus is on preparing myself in the best possible way for this new challenge.
"There will be a lot to learn, and I'm looking forward to working closely with the team, understanding the car and continuing to develop as a driver."
