Trainer Oliver Greenall believes the Grand National course will be ideal for Jagwar ahead of his trip to Aintree this weekend.
Jagwar went off as the favourite for the Ultima Handicap at last month's Cheltenham Festival and he finished a narrow second behind Johnnywho, who is also amongst the contenders this weekend.
Despite not winning, the way that Jagwar surged up the Cheltenham hill to finish second was a sight to behold and immediately left punters checking the latest Grand National odds.
The 3m1f trip was the furthest that the seven-year-old had raced and the combination of his stamina and turn of foot left Greenall in no doubt about his staying credentials.
"I was a little bit worried whether he would stay the distance," said Greenall.
"But we saw at Cheltenham how he finished after going so wide and making a few jumping errors. We're confident that he can now stay the distance and we were perhaps unsure before."
The pace of the Grand National has increased significantly over the years, with last year's winner Nick Rockett producing the third-fastest winning performance in history.
The race has changed from its typical slog to being a fast-run race where the smaller obstacles should in theory aid the classier horses.
An unknown element remains the sheer traffic that horses have to overcome to find their route to glory, but Jagwar is no stranger to the chaos having prevailed in a field of 20 at last year's Cheltenham Festival before finishing second out of 22 last month.
Greenall, who also trains Grand National contender Iroko, believes that the pace of the race and the favourable conditions should appeal to Jagwar at Aintree.
It’s a fast run race, especially if they get the good weather and the good ground, which will suit him.
"He will travel well and I think he will be better suited to the Grand National course than the old course at Cheltenham.
"The jumping has been the main concern but he's in good form and we've been doing lots of jumping with him to try and get him shortening.
"He's doing better when he's in tight, he did a good piece of work on Saturday and was perhaps a little bit keen.
"But we're really pleased with him, I think the current odds are pretty fair and I think he will go well."
