While the attention of the golfing world centred upon Aaron Rai's US PGA Championship win at Aronimink on Sunday, regular competition on the DP World Tour will return on Thursday when the Rinkven International in Antwerp hosts the Soudal Open.
LIV Golf new boy Thomas Detry is set to lead the home challenge while Scotland’s Ewen Ferguson and Dutchman Darius van Driel will be hoping to go one better than last year when they lost out to Norway’s Kristoffer Reitan.
Yurav Premlall will also be an interesting entrant, a fortnight after he stormed to a 14-shot victory at the Catalunya Championship.
Best Bet - Thomas Detry each-way @ 10/1
Alternative Bet - Ewen Ferguson each-way @ 20/1
Alternative Bet - Oliver Lindell each-way @ 25/1
Best Bet: Thomas Detry each-way @ 10/1
Belgian golf fans have had years of frustration waiting for one of their own to claim their national golf prize but they could finally receive the news they have been waiting for at the Soudal Open.
There have been 19 tournaments held in the country under the DP World Tour umbrella but none have been won by a home golfer.
However, Thomas Detry looks to have a great chance of putting that record right, judging by the results he has been chalking up since making the move to LIV Golf.
His performances on the breakaway circuit have been excellent since he made the move at the beginning of the year and while he has yet to take one of LIV Golf’s biggest prizes, he has been knocking on the door with five top-seven finishes in seven events.
Detry was also firmly in the running the last time he played at this venue in 2023 when he was frustrated by a closing 73 that saw him slip to seventh when he had been firmly in contention.
He can put that right this week by making a bold challenge with a home crowd willing him on for long-awaited home glory.
Alternative Bet: Ewen Ferguson each-way @ 20/1
Ewen Ferguson saw a winning chance slip through his fingers last year when he lost in a play-off to Norway’s Reitan, but he has looked good enough 12 months later to suggest he could go one better.
The Scot has two DP World Tour victories to his name and he has to take confidence from last year’s performance, which included a second round of 64.
He was fourth at the recent Turkish Open on a course which, like this week’s examination, was a test of accuracy, so that showing should provide an additional lift and he looks to have a live chance of glory.
Alternative Bet: Oliver Lindell each-way @ 25/1
Another golfer to keep an eye out for this week is Finnish challenger Oliver Lindell.
He is proving himself to be a decent competitor at DP World Tour level and his 25th last year could have been a lot better had he not finished with a 74 as he caught the eye with a Saturday 65.
So he has proved he can get to grips with the course and his recent form is not bad either as he claimed his third top-10 of the year at the Catalunya Championship a fortnight ago, which suggests the 27-year-old may not be far away from claiming that all-important first success at this level.
The Rinkven International is a par 71 test which measures 6,940 yards.
This tournament has taken place since 2022, but Rinkven also hosted the Belgian Knockout on what was then the European Tour in 2018 and 2019.
Norwegian Kristoffer Reitan came out on top of a three-way play-off in 2025 which involved Ewen Ferguson and Darius van Driel.
None of the previous 19 DP World Tour tournaments held in Belgium have been won by a home player.
Spain’s Nacho Elvira holds the 72-hole course record of 266, which he posted on the way to a one-shot success in 2024.
The course features six par-fours which are less than 400 yards long.
