Formula One Records

We take a look at some of the most notable all-time records in the history of Formula 1.

Formula 1

Most F1 Drivers' Championship titles

Michael Schumacher & Lewis Hamilton - 7

Two drivers that have transcended the sport, Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton have won seven World Drivers' Championships apiece.

Schumacher won back-to-back titles with Benetton in 1994 and 1995 before embarking on a remarkable period of dominance with Ferrari from 2000 to 2004.

Hamilton secured his maiden title in his second season with McLaren in 2008 and had to wait another six years for his second, this time with Mercedes. Hamilton reigned supreme in six of the seven years between 2014 and 2020, while his hopes of a record-breaking eighth Drivers' Championship were controversially ended by Max Verstappen in Abu Dhabi in 2021.

Most F1 Constructors' Championship titles

Ferrari - 16

The oldest and most successful team in F1 history, Ferrari have amassed 16 Constructors' Championship titles, seven more than their nearest rival Williams.

Winning the title for eight consecutive years from 1999, the famous prancing horse has not tasted success since the 2008 season.

Most F1 Grands Prix

Fernando Alonso - 400*

Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso is the most experienced driver in F1 history and with the Spaniard tied down with Aston Martin until 2026, there's plenty more races left in the veteran.

Alonso is one of six drivers to feature in over 300 Grands Prix, including Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen, Rubens Barrichello, Michael Schumacher and Jenson Button.

Most F1 race wins

Lewis Hamilton - 105*

Hamilton became the first driver in F1 history to win 100 races as he scored his century at the Russian Grand Prix in 2021.

The record was previously held by Michael Schumacher, who finished his career on 91 Grand Prix victories.

F1 Records: Most wins

Most race wins in an F1 season

Max Verstappen - 19

After setting the record for race wins in a season with 15 in 2022, Verstappen exceeded all expectations in 2023 by winning 19 of the 23 Grands Prix in his Red Bull RB19.

Youngest F1 race winner

Max Verstappen - 18 years, 7 months and 15 days

Promoted from Toro Rosso to Red Bull for the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix, Verstappen capitalised on an incident between Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg to become F1's youngest race victor, breaking the record previously held by Sebastian Vettel.

Highest points total in an F1 season

Max Verstappen - 575

The 2023 F1 season was a scene of devastating dominance from Verstappen, who accumulated 575 points out of a possible 620 (92.74%) as he romped to a third Drivers' Championship.

Most F1 pole positions

Lewis Hamilton - 104*

As you might have guessed, the driver with the most race victories also boasts the most pole positions and Hamilton's tallied 104 over the course of his 17-year career.

Michael Schumacher ranks second with 68 and Ayrton Senna third with 65.

F1 Records: Most pole positions

Most F1 pole positions in a season

Sebastian Vettel - 15

Vettel was largely imperious in qualifying during the 2011 season, putting his Red Bull RB7 on pole in 15 of the 19 races.

The record was previously held by Nigel Mansell, who was on pole position in 14 of the 16 races in 1992.

Most F1 podiums

Lewis Hamilton - 201*

Yes, as you might have guessed, it's Hamilton.

The Brit has been on the podium in an astonishing 57.1% of races he's competed in.

F1 Records: Most podiums

Most F1 fastest laps

Michael Schumacher - 77

The seven-time world champion set the fastest lap in 77 races and there was 20 years between his first and last, which speaks volumes of Schumacher's longevity in the sport.

Highest number of F1 laps led

Lewis Hamilton - 5,485*

Hamilton and Michael Schumacher are currently the only two drivers to have led more than 5,000 laps in their career, with Schumacher tallying 5,111 before his retirement in 2012.

Most F1 races without a win

Nico Hulkenberg - 223*

Hulkenberg has the unwanted record of competing in the most F1 races without winning a Grand Prix.

Even a podium has proved elusive for the German, whose best finish is fourth.

Most consecutive points finishes

Lewis Hamilton - 48

Hamilton clocked 48 consecutive points finishes from the 2018 British Grand Prix to the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen went close to emulating Hamilton's record as he scored points in 43 successive races, starting with the 2022 Emilia Romagna GP and concluding at the 2024 Australian Grand Prix.

Most F1 race wins at an individual circuit

Lewis Hamilton at Silverstone - 9

Not only did Hamilton's success at the 2024 British Grand Prix end a barren spell of 945 days without a race victory, but it also ensured that he became the most successful driver at a single circuit.

The seven-time world champion also has eight victories at the Hungaroring in Hungary, equal to the number of wins Michael Schumacher achieved at Magny-Cours in France.
