Walsall v Grimsby Town Prediction: Mariners 29/20 for another Bescot victory

Walsall and Grimsby Town each made winning starts to their League Two campaigns and meet at the Bescot Stadium at 12:30 on Saturday.

After missing out on promotion at Wembley in 2024/25, the Saddlers only finished 13th last season, while Town took seventh but lost to Salford City in the play-offs.

Walsall's inability to make the top seven was in part due to a poor home record, winning only eight times and finishing with just 29 points, the fifth-worst in the division.

Grimsby had the fifth-best away record and David Artell's side are tipped to grab another victory on Saturday in League Two.

Walsall v Grimsby Town Tips Summary

Best Bet - Grimsby to win @ 29/20
Alternative Bet - Andy Cook anytime goalscorer @ 2/1
Bet Builder - Half with most goals - 2nd Half, Both Teams to Score - Yes and Over 9 Corners @ 5/1

Walsall v Grimsby Town

Walsall v Grimsby Town Prediction

Best Bet: Grimsby to win @ 29/20

The 2025/26 season was all action for Grimsby, who reached the fourth round of both the FA Cup and EFL Cup, famously beating Manchester United in the latter.

They are already out of this season's EFL Cup after losing 3-1 to Blackpool but they beat Exeter City 1-0 in their league opener, a result Artell described as "deserved".

Walsall won 1-0 at Bristol City in the EFL Cup before triumphing 3-0 at Gillingham in their league opener.

Both results were away from home and they have won only one of their last 12 competitive games at the Bescot.

That is a worrying statistic and after winning 1-0 in the West Midlands last season, Grimsby can take advantage of any lingering nerves the hosts may have.

Alternative Bet: Andy Cook anytime goalscorer @ 2/1

Jaze Kabia's exit to Leyton Orient has opened the way for Andy Cook to regularly lead Grimsby's attack.

Cook spent the second half of last season on loan from Bradford City, before signing permanently for a second time, having also played for the club between 2012 and 2014.

At 35, age and a couple of bad knee injuries prevented the forward from producing his best form in League One but he is a proven fourth-tier goal-getter.

Cook scored both of Grimsby's goals in last season's draw with Walsall at Blundell Park and he is backed to break his duck for the new campaign.

Walsall v Grimsby Town Bet Builder Tip

  • Half with most goals - 2nd Half

  • Both Teams to Score - Yes

  • Over 9 Corners

    Pays 5/1

Harvey Rodgers has scored both of Grimsby's goals this season and while his run may end on Saturday, the confident 29-year-old is sure to try his luck, with Artell admitting he has told the right-back to be more positive in attack.

That could help contribute to a 'yes' in both teams to score, with last August's 1-0 win for the Mariners the only time in the last nine meetings that one side has kept a clean sheet.

Last season's meetings produced 10 and 16 corners, so backing over nine corners provides a nice boost to this treble.
