Reading v Brentford Predictions: Wilson and Marriott highlight 17/2 Bet Builder

Reading have already progressed past Stevenage and Bromley in this competition, but Brentford represent a big step up for the League One outfit and were ruthless in their previous EFL Cup outing.

The Bees hit Birmingham for six at St Andrew's and they will be hoping for another dominant display at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

Callum Wilson could return to lead the line, with Mikkel Damsgaard and Dango Ouattara also starting in the last round against Birmingham.

Reading v Brentford

Reading v Brentford Prediction

Best Bet: Brentford -1 handicap @ 4/5

Brentford were fortunate to extend their unbeaten Premier League start to the season by drawing 2-2 against Bournemouth at the weekend, but the Bees should have more joy when they visit third-tier Reading for Tuesday's EFL Cup tie.

Keith Andrews admitted that his team lacked cohesion at the Vitality Stadium, but they remain unbeaten after five games and have scored an impressive 13 goals in this period.

This includes a 6-1 demolition of Championship side Birmingham in the last round of the EFL Cup and a 3-0 drubbing of Tottenham.

Brentford's momentum may have stalled since then, but they have more than enough quality to sail to victory against a Reading side that lost 2-1 to Cambridge United on Saturday.

Alternative Bet: Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score @ 10/11

While Brentford are expected to produce a solid attacking performance, that is not to say that Reading won't have some joy of their own.

The Royals have scored in seven of their eight games this season for a total of 17 goals, and Brentford have been far from convincing at the back.

Their only clean sheet came in their opener against Tottenham, and both teams have scored in all four fixtures since.

Over 2.5 goals has landed in each of Reading's last four matches, with those outings averaging 3.75 goals per game, so neutrals should expect an entertaining affair on Tuesday.

Reading v Brentford Bet Builder Tip

  • Brentford to score in both halves

  • Callum Wilson to score

  • Jack Marriott to score

    Pays 17/2

Brentford have scored in both halves in three of their five games this season, including in their 6-1 win over Birmingham in the EFL Cup, and they have more than enough motivation in what is likely to be a rotated squad to keep the pressure on Reading.

Among those rotated players, Callum Wilson could lead the line for the Bees in place of regular forward Igor Thiago.

The veteran striker scored against Birmingham in the last round and looks a good value goalscorer option for the visitors.

For Reading, almost the entirety of their attacking hopes rest on the shoulders of the excellent Jack Marriott.

The 32-year-old scored 16 league goals last season and has already chipped in with six strikes in five this year. He is yet to start in this competition but is likely to be fielded against Brentford.

Marriott has had 19 shots and 13 on target this season. Five of his six goals have been scored at home, so expect him to perform on Tuesday.
