Raul Jimenez closing in on Wolves return

Wolves are in advanced talks with former Molineux star Raul Jimenez over a return to the club this summer.

Having suffered relegation from the Premier League this season, Wolves head coach Rob Edwards is already busy preparing for life in the Championship as he eyes an instant return to the Promised Land.

Molineux is expected to be a busy place when the transfer window opens, with plenty of incomings and outgoings expected, and the West Midlands outfit have already brought in full-back Kieran Trippier on a free transfer.

The Englishman left Newcastle United after his contract expired this summer and he has quickly found a new home, putting pen-to-paper on a two-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.

Return on the cards

The 35-year-old will bring plenty of experience to the Wolves squad and he could be joined in the ranks by one of the club's most iconic players, Mexico forward Jimenez.

Also 35 years of age, Jimenez was surprisingly named as one of the several players who would be leaving Fulham when their contracts expire this summer.

The Mexican scored 10 goals in all competitions for the Cottagers this season, nine of those coming in the Premier League as only Harry Wilson (10) netted more times for the Cottagers in the top flight.

But it is a summer of change at Craven Cottage, following the news manager Marco Silva will be departing, and Jimenez's three-year spell at Craven Cottage is coming to an end.

It doesn't look like the forward will have to wait long for a new club, though, with reports stating he and his representatives are in advanced talks over securing a return to Wolves.

Jimenez joined the Black Country outfit on loan for the 2018/19 season before the move was then made permanent, and he stayed at the club until the summer of 2023 until leaving for Fulham.

He scored 57 goals in 166 games between 2018 and 2023 and his tally of 40 Premier League goals make him Wolves' top scorer in the English top-flight.

It is believed that Wolves have sent officials to Mexico's camp at World Cup 2026 to negotiate the final details of Jimenez's second spell at Molineux.

Jimenez is expected to play an important role for co-hosts El Tri in the major tournament and he is gearing up to lead the line for his country in the Group A opener against South Africa on Thursday evening.

The experienced forward can be backed at 6/5 to score any time, just as he did in the 5-1 thrashing of Serbia in an international friendly on Friday.

Mexico are 21/50 favourites to open the World Cup with a victory, with the draw priced at 7/2 and South Africa 13/2 to cause an upset.

Arrival to spark exits?

If Jimenez's move does go ahead, it could pave the way for a potential exit from Wolves for either Tolu Arodokare and Hwang Hee-Chan, who are said to be attracting interest from across Europe.

Hwang netted three times in all competitions for Wolves this season, while Arodokare found the back of the net six times at Molineux.

Wolves are 11/2 to win the 2026/27 Championship and 13/8 to be promoted, with only West Ham ahead of them in both markets.
