Arsenal are being linked with a sensational transfer coup for Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero.
Reports in the Sunday press suggest Romero is open to joining Arsenal this summer – although Spurs are said to be adamant their defender will not be crossing the north London divide.
A move to the other side of the bitter North London derby isn't unheard of, but would bring lots of additional heat on the Argentine defender should it materialise. Here we recall five players who have played for both Arsenal and Tottenham.
Sol Campbell
Campbell joined Tottenham as an 18-year-old in 1992 and would spend the best part of a decade at White Hart Lane, making more than 300 appearances and establishing himself as an England international and Spurs skipper.
He enjoyed League Cup success in 1999 under George Graham, the ex-Arsenal boss in his first season at Tottenham.
By 2001, Spurs offered Campbell a new contract that would have made him the club's highest-ever paid player, and his public utterances suggested he would remain loyal before he sensationally walked out to meet the press as an Arsenal player a week after his contract at Spurs had expired.
Campbell won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups with the Gunners but has never been forgiven by Tottenham devotees.
Pat Jennings
A quarter of a century before Campbell there was Pat Jennings, the legendary Northern Ireland goalkeeper who spent 13 years at Spurs and made more than 450 appearances before swapping to Arsenal in 1977.
Jennings played more than 200 times for the Gunners and was a three-time Ballon d'Or nominee. He won the FA Cup with both clubs and his case was much different from that of Campbell as a farewell match for Jennings was played against Tottenham in May 1985 at Highbury and he remained popular with both sets of supporters.
Emmanuel Adebayor
Adebayor came to prominence at Arsenal after joining from Monaco in 2006. He made more than 100 appearances for the Gunners before a controversial move to Manchester City in the summer of 2009.
The Arsenal support were less than enamoured and Adebayor further incensed them when he scored for City and ran the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the travelling Gunners just a month into the new season.
After an initial season-long loan at White Hart Lane in 2011-12, he joined Spurs permanently in 2012. Despite his talents, Adebayor failed to win a major honour in English football.
William Gallas
French defender Gallas captained both Arsenal and Tottenham after arriving in the English game at Chelsea.
With the Blues he won two Premier League titles, a League Cup and a Community Shield. After losing the 2006 World Cup final with Les Bleus against Italy, Gallas signed for Arsenal as part of the deal that allowed Ashley Cole to go the other way.
He succeeded Thierry Henry as Arsenal's captain and spent four years at the club before joining Harry Redknapp's Spurs side.
At that time, he was the first player to play first-team games for Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham. Injuries curtailed his time at the Lilywhites and he made just 61 Premier League appearances across three seasons.
Jimmy Robertson
Robertson joined Tottenham from St Mirren in 1964 and spent four years at White Hart Lane where he was much loved as an exciting winger with an eye for goal.
He made the move to Highbury in a straight-swap deal for David Jenkins and Robertson is one of only two players to score for both sides in the north London derby – the other being Adebayor. He appeared 59 times in his two-year spell at Arsenal before moving to Ipswich.
