53 of Britain's best winter athletes head to Milan next month for the 25th edition of the Winter Olympics Games.
Great Britain will send a number of genuine world class athletes to the Games in northern Italy, with a stated ambition of four to eight medals, a haul that would represent a best ever Team GB performance at a Winter Olympics.
Team GB, unlike a number of other international federations, do not award prize money based on performance at the Games, or indeed medals, preferring instead to provide an annual stipend per athlete.
According to reports ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics, both summer and winter Olympians representing Team GB are awarded an annual stipend of £27,800.
The money is supplied to cover their expenses while training, however some athletes can substantially boost their income with sponsorship deals.
Several national committees have different processes however, with the finances on offer varying significantly. Ahead of the 2024 Games, Australia paid their gold-winning athletes a fee of £10,137, with the United States awarding their stars £29,103 per a gold.
The numbers pale in comparison to Singapore however, who offered their athletes a jaw-dropping $1m haul for every gold medal secured.
Sadly the fabled boon failed to inspire; Singapore won one medal in the 2024 Games, a bronze in the Men's Formula Kite.
