West Indies v New Zealand Second ODI Prediction, Tips and Bet Builder

West Indies will aim to seal back-to-back ODI wins for the first time in almost a year when they take on New Zealand again, back at Providence Stadium on Monday.

Shai Hope’s side delivered a masterful performance to beat the Black Caps by seven wickets on Saturday and go 1-0 up in a five-match series which means so much to them.

Sitting 10th in the ICC ODI rankings, they are outside the automatic qualification spots for the 2027 World Cup and almost certain to face another global qualifier unless they can engineer a dramatic upswing in results.

Saturday’s win in Guyana was a step in the right direction as the Caribbean side restricted New Zealand to 267 on a slow pitch before Hope’s unbeaten 87 saw them home with an over to spare.

Keacy Carty sparkled with 95 off 112 balls and debutant spinner Vitel Lawes impressed in his first-ever professional outing by claiming three wickets.

The ever-reliable Daryl Mitchell top-scored for New Zealand, who failed to establish enough lasting partnerships in a sluggish batting effort, while leaving spinner Michael Bracewell five overs short of his full allocation may have been a mistake in hindsight.

The Black Caps are ranked second in the world in this format and have won seven of their last nine bilateral ODI series, so the West Indies will expect a stronger showing from the tourists in this second clash.

West Indies v New Zealand

West Indies v New Zealand Prediction

Best Bet: New Zealand to Win @ 8/11

West Indies surprised the Black Caps in the opener with Hope and Carty both assessing the conditions well and judging the run chase to perfection.

It was slightly out of character for a team that have become known for shooting themselves in the foot during a shocking run in Test and ODI cricket over the past few years.

They failed to reach the 2023 World Cup after losing four of five games in the Super Six stage of qualifying and had lost their last three bilateral series ahead of this one.

However, there was still room for one comical moment that could have elicited a catastrophic collapse when Carty appeared to hit his own wicket while admiring a pull shot for six off Jacob Duffy.

But TV umpire Ahsan Raza spared Carty’s blushes by ruling that the batter had completed the stroke before making contact with the wickets.

New Zealand, despite missing several senior bowlers, still have enough quality in their attack to strike back in the second ODI while their batting remains more reliable than the West Indies’ unit.

Mitchell, who averages 139.00 in ODIs this year, is the prize wicket for any opponent and his dismissal for 65 at 243-5 was another major turning point.

The Black Caps may have gone off the boil a little from their brilliant form in 2024 and 2025 when they won seven of eight bilateral ODI series.

But they have enough class and experience to capitalise on any errors the hosts make on Monday to level the series.

Alternative Bet: Top West Indies Batter — Shai Hope @ 13/5

Although he just missed out on being their top scorer in the opening match, Hope is clearly the most reliable source of runs in the West Indies line-up.

His ability to absorb pressure and bat deep is crucial on low‑scoring Guyana surfaces. With John Campbell, Ackeem Auguste and Carty still searching for consistency, Hope’s experience and temperament make him the most reliable candidate to top score.

He has been West Indies’ leading ODI run‑scorer since 2023 and thrives in conditions where timing and placement outweigh power.

West Indies v New Zealand Bet Builder

  • Daryl Mitchell 50+ Runs
  • Vitel Lawes 1+ Wickets
  • Over 8.5 Wickets Caught

    Pays
    5/1

Mitchell is the top-ranked ODI batter in the world with an average pushing close to 70 over the past 18 months, so he is taken to make a second half-century of the series.

Lawes enjoyed a dream debut on Saturday, justifying his fast-track promotion to the senior team. The wrist-spinner impressed at the last Under-19 World Cup with 10 wickets and is taken to claim at least one more scalp on Monday.

The final leg of this Bet Builder is for there to be more than eight wickets caught. New Zealand remain a superb fielding side while the West Indies are much better at taking chances in this format and, on a slow pitch, there could be plenty of opportunities for catches in the deep.
