England Women take on Ireland Women in their second T20 World Cup fixture on Tuesday evening at the Rose Bowl.
The tournament hosts opened up their campaign with a commanding 87-run victory over Sri Lanka, helped along by Danni Wyatt-Hodge scoring 105 runs from 62 balls. England lost just one wicket in piling up 219 before dismissing Sri Lanka for just 132, and they are firm favourites to add another victory against Ireland.
Ireland made a poor start to the tournament, losing by 40 runs to Scotland, but they can find solace in the fact they won their most recent T20 international against England, albeit in 2024.
Best Bet – Amy Jones over 25.5 runs @ 5/6
Alternative Bet - Danni Wyatt-Hodge to score 30+ runs @ 1/1
Bet Builder – Charlie Dean to take 2+ wickets & Danielle Wyatt-Hodge to finish top England batter @ 13/2
Best Bet: Amy Jones over 25.5 runs @ 5/6
Jones got off to a great start in the tournament against Sri Lanka, striking 53 off just 38 balls and her innings played a big part in England posting a mammoth total.
Jones had two other half centuries in the build up to the tournament, scoring 67 in the first T20 against India, followed up by 28 in the second, and after a couple of failures she bounced back with 64 in the final warm-up against India once again.
To back that form up with another 50 in the opener should give Jones even more confidence, and she looks more than capable of passing her run line on Tuesday.
Alternative Bet: Danielle Wyatt-Hodge to score 30+ runs @ 1/1
While Danni Wyatt-Hodge had hardly set the world alight in the T20 series with India or the two warm-ups, it is worth remembering that she had been in fine fettle for her county just prior, registering scores of 124, 96, 38 and 119 in the One Day Cup.
The right only made 1 in her final match for Surrey before switching to the 20-over format with England, and three single-figure scores followed with a top-score of 29 in those four matches.
However, the right-handed opener started the tournament in magnificent fashion with a fine unbeaten 105 off just 62 balls, becoming only the seventh player to score a century in this competition.
Buoyed on by that, Wyatt-Hodge looks capable of following up against Ireland, only ninth in the ICC T20 rankings, by reaching a much more modest score of 30.
Charlie Dean has been in fine form for England and made an instant impact in the tournament opener by taking 2-18 against Sri Lanka.
That was a second successive game in which she had taken multiple wickets for the Lionesses, and is a fifth time in her last eight games in this format that she had claimed at least two scalps.
For leg two of this Bet Builder, Wyatt-Hodge can replicate her opening-match feat by finishing as England’s top batter.
She will be full of confidence after her century last time out and given her form coupled with the fact that she opens the batting and has first use of the power play, she looks to have a great chance of leading the way for her side once more.
