Chelsea have reportedly named Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson on their shortlist to replace Marc Cucurella.
After four seasons at Stamford Bridge, Cucurella completed a move to Real Madrid earlier this month worth a reported €55 million, with upwards of €5 million in add-ons.
The transfer sees Cucurella become one of the first signings of former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho following his return to the Spanish capital.
Ahead of his first season in West London, Xabi Alonso has wasted little time in beginning the search for a replacement for the Spaniard, who was integral to Chelsea's UEFA Conference League and Club World Cup successes in 2024-25.
According to Swedish outlet Expressen, Chelsea are targeting a move for Gudmundsson who is currently representing Graham Potter's side at the 2026 World Cup.
The report suggests the Blues have shortlisted Gudmundsson and a deal could be completed this summer provided the club are willing to meet Leeds' asking price.
Gudmundsson joined Leeds from Ligue 1 side Lille last season in a deal worth a reported £10.4million following the Yorkshire club's promotion to the top flight.
The 27-year-old quickly adapted to life in the Premier League and played a key role in Daniel Farke's back line as they managed to comfortably avoid the drop.
In all, Gudmundsson made 32 league appearances in 2025-26 before a hamstring injury curtailed his involvement at the tail end of the campaign and threatened his place in Sweden's World Cup squad as they returned to the tournament for the first time since 2018.
However, he recovered in time for the finals in North America and has started both games thus far as the Swedes look to progress from Group F.
