Celtic clinched a dramatic fifth successive Scottish Premiership title amidst wild scenes of celebration on Saturday afternoon.

Hearts, who needed a point at Celtic Park to seal their first top-flight triumph in 66 years, led after Lawrence Shankland headed them into a 1-0 lead shortly before the half-time interval.

However, just a few moments later, the hosts were back on level-pegging courtesy of Arne Engels, who made no mistake in dispatching from the penalty spot after Alexandros Kyziridis had inadvertently handled the ball.

The home side, clearly buoyant on the back of their equaliser, took the game to the visitors during the second 45 minutes, but looked set to be frustrated in their attempt to salvage silverware from what has been a truly turbulent campaign.

But, never write off Martin O'Neill's side, whose late onslaught was duly rewarded when Japense star Daizen Maeda flicked Callum Osmond's cross into the back of the net with just two minutes of normal time remaining, with VAR eventually giving the goal after the linesman's flag had offered the desperate visitors some hope.

As Derek McInnes' brave side sought a late leveller, their fate was sealed when Osmond ran the full length of the field unopposed to roll the ball into the back of the net, leaving Hearts and their ardent army of fans crestfallen at the conclusion of a campaign that promised so much.
