Brentford 3-0 Chelsea: Report, stats and match timeline

Brentford claimed another major scalp at the Gtech Community Stadium as goals from Jaidon Anthony, Igor Thiago and Fabio Carvalho saw Keith Andrews' Bees defeat Chelsea 3-0 in the Premier League.

An abundance of goals was supposed to be on the menu in west London with both sides in excellent scoring form, but the first half failed to deliver the high-octane affair many anticipated as defences ruled in the opening period.

The absence of Joao Pedro impacted Chelsea's fluidity in the final third, while home supporters had to wait until the 37th minute for Brentford's first shot on target as Yehor Yarmoliuk tested the palms of Emi Martinez from distance.

Both sides demonstrated greater intent early in the second half, but it was Brentford who made the breakthrough just after the hour mark courtesy of a set-piece.

Jannik Schuster beat his marker to direct Mikkel Damsgaard's delightful corner delivery back across the face of goal and Jaidon Anthony was left unmarked to nod home his first goal for the club since his £17m switch from Burnley in the summer.

Chelsea nearly mustered an equaliser through a corner of their own as Jordan Henderson's delivery was missed by Schuster, but Vitaly Janelt done just enough to hold off Levi Colwill who was waiting to pounce at the back post.

The game then began to open up with Brentford starting to find space behind Chelsea's defensive line, and they finally exploited the Blues rearguard with a rapid counter-attack. Kevin Schade raced through on goal, and although his effort was saved by Martinez, Igor Thiago was waiting to pounce as the Brazilian netted his first Premier League goal of the campaign.

Brentford then added salt to Chelsea's wounds deep in stoppage time as substitute Carvalho emphatically converted Schade's cross at the back post.

Victory for the hosts extends their impressive unbeaten start to the campaign and sees the Bees leapfrog Chelsea into third.
