Are England players getting paid for playing at the World Cup & how much will they earn?

It's been reported that this summer's World Cup will be the most lucrative of all-time, and by some distance!

FIFA are understood to be distributing a record £650 million across all 48 competing nations, with the bulk of that - £520 million - having been set aside as prize money.

Of course, England players will be hoping to secure a slice of that - the bigger the slice the further they progress in the tournament - but do they also get a base wage for representing the country?

Well, it's common knowledge that those lucky enough to represent the Three Lions do get a minimal payment, although it's substantially less than the hundreds of thousands of pounds per week they are rewarded with for representing their domestic clubs.

Join us as we take a look at what each of Thomas Tuchel's 26-man squad are likely to earn from their trans-Atlantic venture...

How much are England players being paid to play at the World Cup?

The FA has never officially disclosed the payment structure they have in place with England players, although it's widely believed that they all get a base appearance fee of around £2,000 each time they don the fabled jersey.

Of course, it's classed as an honour to represent the country and many would agree that they shouldn't be being handsomely rewarded for the privilege.

How much will England players get if they win the World Cup?

In addition to their base payment, there are also performance-related bonuses available to players which will have been pre-agreed directly between the FA and the players' group.

According to media sources leading into the Three Lions' latest World Cup campaign, each member of the squad will pick up a mammoth £500,000 pay cheque should they become the first group of England players since the class of 66 to be crowned champions.

Will Thomas Tuchel get a bonus if England win the World Cup?

He will indeed, and it's believed to be far in excess of the £500,000 each of his 26 players would pick up.

Again, nothing has been officially disclosed regarding the terms of his contract, but it has been estimated that the German would be celebrating a £3.5 million windfall should he follow in the footsteps of the legendary Sir Alf Ramsey.

Not bad for five weeks' work, right?
