Cheltenham Town have unveiled the marquee signing of striker Andreas Weimann on the eve of the 2026/27 League Two season.
The former Bristol City and Aston Villa marksman joins the Robins on a permanent basis after being without a club following the expiration of his contract at Derby County.
The Rams announced in May that Weimann would not be offered new terms following a season where he played 27 times under John Eustace before joining Austrian Bundesliga side Rapid Vienna on loan in the second half of the campaign.
On Weimann's addition, Cheltenham boss Steve Cotterill said: "He has played at a consistently high level throughout his career as well as for his country.
"He has some excellent qualities and we believe he will compliment our attacking options well."
Weimann started his professional career with Aston Villa after moving from Austria aged 16 and the forward spent five years at Villa Park, scoring 24 goals in 129 appearances, including 17 in the Premier League.
He subsequently joined Derby in 2015 for £2m and then Bristol City in 2018 for an undisclosed fee, racking up over 200 appearances for the Robins and netting 51 goals.
The striker had a loan spell at West Brom before moving to Blackburn Rovers for a season, and Weimann reunited with Eustace in the summer of 2025 at Derby.
Capped 26 times by Austria, Weimann made his international debut in 2012 but had to wait 10 years to score his first goal for his country as he netted against France in June 2022.
“I am delighted to get it done, I can’t wait to get going," Weimann told local media.
“I’ve had some really good conversations with the manager, I’m excited by what’s to come and I want to help as much as I can.”
Weimann's not the only notable forward to descend from the Championship to League Two this summer after Salford City spent big to land Millwall striker Macaulay Langstaff, who heads the market to be League Two top goalscorer.
Weimann's not as prominent in the betting, with the 35-year-old a 50/1 longshot to claim the golden boot this season.
Cheltenham had already replrenished their striking options with the loan additions of Leicester City duo Kirsten Otchere and Jake Evans.
George Miller started up front in Cheltenham's EFL Cup defeat to Charlton last weekend and netted his fifth goals in six competitive appearances, while former Wrexham striker Jake Bickerstaff is also vying for a starting berth under Cotterill.
Predominantly a centre forward, Weimann can also operate off the right.
Weimann's best goalscoring campaign was in 2021/22 when he netted 22 goals in the Championship for Bristol City - Cheltenham fans would love their star signing to replicate that form in front of goal at Whaddon Road.
