Marco Silva is expected to leave Fulham in favour of a move to Benfica, according to reports.
There has been much discussion surrounding the future of the 48-year-old, whose contract is set to expire after the conclusion of the current Premier League campaign.
Fulham are keen to retain the services of the 48-year-old, however, it appears that Silva may already be set on a move back to his home country of Portugal where he could replace outgoing manager Jose Mourinho at the Lisbon club.
European football journalist Sacha Tavolieri first reported the developments on Silva's situation early on Thursday morning.
"BREAKING. Marco Silva is set to become the new head coach of SL Benfica," Tavolieri posted to his X account.
"The Portuguese club has reached an agreement with the Fulham FC manager, who had prioritized a return to his home country. Official announcement is expected in the coming days."
After notable spells with Sporting CP, Olympiacos, Hull and Everton, the Portuguese made his way to Craven Cottage where he has enjoyed a fantastic five-year tenure in West London.
Initially signed on a three-year deal following the departure of Scott Parker, Silva set about his work getting Fulham back to the Premier League, winning 13 of his opening 15 matches of the season.
Silva succeeded in his goal, wrapping up the Championship title in mid-April with his team scoring a near-record 106 goals in the process.
Rejecting big money offers from the Saudi Pro League, he instead penned a further three-year extension with the Cottagers in 2023 whilst also guiding the club to their first-ever League Cup semi-final.
Silva has continued to solidify Fulham's status as a consistent Premier League outfit and during the 2024/25 campaign, helped break their record points tally of 54.
However, it seems as if his time in the dugout at Craven Cottage is coming to an end, with the pull of Portugal's most decorated club far too enticing to ignore.
