Newly-appointed Oxford manager Aaron Ramsey will be keen to get to grips with his squad and has identified a former Cardiff teammate as a potential addition.
Ramsey only announced his retirement from the professional game earlier this year but has been handed the reigns at the Kassam Stadium following the shock departure of Matt Bloomfield last week.
With less than two months to go until the beginning of the League One season, Ramsey is eyeing up Ryan Wintle as a source of midfield reinforcement.
According to exclusive reports by Football League World (FLW), the U's will rival Leicester City for 29-year-old's signature.
"FLW understands that Ryan Wintle is on Ramsey's radar as he looks to freshen up his Oxford squad early on and make a statement to the rest of League One," wrote reporter Ben Wignall.
"Leicester City are also in for Wintle's services, FLW can confirm, with new Foxes head coach Russell Martin looking to take them in a new direction after two relegations in a row from the Premier League into League One."
Wintle's departure came as a surprise when Cardiff's retained list was announced last month. The former Crewe Alexandra man played 40 times in the league last season as Brian Barry-Murphy's side earned promotion back to the Championship.
Wintle was named 2025/26 Cardiff City Player of the Year and stated that he was leaving the club due to circumstances "completely out of my control".
He is now a sought after free agent for a plethora of EFL sides and it is no surprise that he has attracted the attention of a brace of clubs expected to battle it out towards the top of the third tier.
Russell Martin is now the man in the Leicester hotseat following a disappointing relegation last season. The Foxes have a number of high profile players set to depart this summer and Wintle would offer them some much needed third tier experience.
Leicester will be eyeing an immediate return to the Championship and are 11/4 favourites to win the League One title.
